Built By Family.
Carried Forward by Family.
For more than 20 years we've been milling wood, building tables, and shipping one-of-a-kind pieces across America.
Our Story
From Acerage
to American Homes
The Lumber Shack story begins in 2001 when James and Jen Rossing purchased 17 acres in northern Iowa and began building a life and a business.
What began with hauling black dirt grew into tree service, sawmilling, and a passion for live edge wood.
In 2012 we made the decision to leave local service work behind and focus entirely on woodworking.
After James passed away unexpectedly in 2021, The Lumber Shack faced it's greatest challenge yet. With the support of our family, our team, and our customers, we keep striving forward, more committed than ever to building beautiful pieces and honoring the foundation James helped create.

Our Mission
Every Tree Has A Story.
Every Table Should Too.
At The Lumber Shack, we believe remarkable wood deserves more than a second life—it deserves to become the centerpiece where families gather, celebrate milestones, and create memories for generations.
From hand-selecting each log to milling, drying, finishing, and shipping every piece ourselves, we're committed to craftsmanship, honesty, and quality at every step. We don't just sell wood—we help customers create one-of-a-kind heirloom furniture they'll be proud to pass down.
Whether you're building a dining table, kitchen island, office desk, or custom project, our mission is simple:
DELIVER EXCEPTIONAL WOOD, EXCEPTIONAL CRAFTSMANSHIP, AND AN EXCEPTIONAL CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE.
Preserve Incredible Wood
Build Heirloom Furniture
Craft Everything in-House
Treat Customers Like Family

In Loving Memory of
James Rossing
1977-2021
James had a relentless drive, an incredible work ethic, and a vision for what this business could become. His legacy lives on in every slab we mill, every table we build, and in the family that continues the work he started.
